4 Tips to Create a Better You in 2020

The start of a new year is the time that everyone thinks about what they want to be different in the coming year.

It is frequently accompanied by resolutions or goals and dreams of living a better life and becoming a better person.

Part of a better life includes taking care of yourself and improving your health and fitness to become a better you.

Think of yourself as a work in progress, a sculpture that is taking shape through daily effort and attention.

Your body is a sculpture… sculptures take thousands of chips to reach the finalized design. Enjoy the process of chipping away at it, day in and day out, and the process of the masterpiece it is turning into.

With some focused attention, you can create the masterpiece you want to be.

1. To Get Results, You Have to Start

The first of the year is the perfect time to start a new routine that will give you the big win in 12 months.

Don’t make any more excuses. Netflix can wait. The needs of others can take a backseat.

Putting your health and fitness first will create a ripple effect that will improve every other area of your life, including energy levels, sleep, productivity, and relationships.

3. Sleep, Eat, Stress-less

Exercise won’t fix everything. You cannot expect to kill it in the gym 3-5 days a week while your sleep, stress, food intake, hydration, and recovery are off.

You must get these things in alignment as well for optimal results.

The ultimate recipe to reaching your goals is to decompress that stress (speak with a Fitness Architect on this), sleep 8-10 hours every night, and implement the 80/20 rule on food intake.

Eighty percent of your diet should be whole foods, rich in micronutrients and carbs, proteins, and fats. The other 20% should be everything else.

Make sure you’re getting plenty of water every day. A quick rule of thumb is to drink half your body weight in ounces of water per day. So, if you weigh 150 lbs., you should drink a minimum of 75 ounces per day.

It comes down to deciding what you’re willing to give up now to have what you want most in the future.

Concluding thoughts

 As I share this with you, I’m talking to myself as much as I am to you.

Just over a year ago, I was in the best shape of my life. I ranked in the top 100 of the lower southern states and placed just 5 spots away at a Regional Competition on a team to make it to The CrossFit Games.

Fast forward to now, and my life has drastically changed, making 3 workouts in a week an achievement.

In the past year, I made the leap over to be a Fit Architect at BPX. My wife and I moved into our new home. We got a dog and had a beautiful baby boy. All GREAT things, but being in the same shape I was in before, is not realistic now.

A new chapter of life has come, another has closed.

I am reassessing my personal fitness/ lifestyle goals, and I am working DAILY to create a new plan that works for my new life.
